GANG MEMBER SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR HIS INVOLVEMENT IN HOME INVASION Nashville, TN - November 2, 2007- Edward M. Yarbrough, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, announced that David Adoundeth, was sentenced to over four years in federal prison for his involvement in the robbery of over $400,000 in drug proceeds from a Nashville residence in July 2005. Adoundeth admitted that he recruited members of the Asian Pride Gang to rob the drug proceeds of Juan Chavez, a Nashville based cocaine and marijuana trafficker. Chavez was importing large amounts of cocaine and marijuana from Mexico for distribution in Nashville. Chavez’ sale of cocaine and marijuana generated in excess of one million dollars in drug proceeds. In August 2004, Chavez was charged in a criminal complaint with conspiracy to distribute marijuana and cocaine and detained by a United States Magistrate Judge. At the time of his arrest, Chavez had acquired approximately 1.4 million dollars from his sale of cocaine and marijuana. While incarcerated, Chavez instructed family members and associates to smuggle his drug proceeds to Mexico. In 2004 and 2005, much of Chavez’ drug proceeds were smuggled to Mexico and subsequently invested in real estate and businesses. Sometime in 2005, Chavez requested that an individual transport approximately $410,000 of his drug proceeds to Mexico. Prior to the money being smuggled to Mexico, Christina Gomez, the girlfriend of Chavez recruited Adoundeth to steal the money from a residence where the money was stored. Adoundeth recruited members of the Asian Pride Gang, to participate in the home invasion. On or about July 16, 2005, Gomez contacted the robbers and advised then that the drug proceeds were stored in a Nashville residence. After receiving word from Gomez that the money was in the residence, Adoundeth and five other individuals, some armed with guns, traveled to the house where the money was stored. Adoundeth and the other robbers forced their way into the residence and stole $410,000 of Chavez’ drug proceeds that were to be transported to Mexico. Christina Gomez was also convicted and is currently serving a 35 month sentence. Jason Williams was previously sentenced to 96 months in federal prison for his involvement in the robbery. Chavez was convicted on drug and money laundering charges and is currently serving a 100 month federal sentence. Two other individuals have pled guilty for their involvement in the robbery. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department Gang Squad. First Assistant United States Attorney Paul M. O’Brien prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
