Stokes, age 46, of Memphis, was sentenced on September 25, 2008 to 42 years in federal prison for armed bank robbery, announced Lawrence J. Laurenzi, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. Stokes was convicted after a jury trial in June 2008 of robbing the Trust One Bank at 370 South Grove Park in Memphis on December 20, 2005 and then again on December 29, 2005. Stokes was indicted in September 2006 and charged with three counts of Bank Robbery and three counts of use of gun during a crime of violence. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation-Safe Streets Task Force, a joint federal, state, and local task force which includes officers from the Memphis Police Department and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
