SIX WEST TENNESSEE RESIDENTS INDICTED ON FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES Jackson , TN - Six individuals from West Tennessee were indicted on November 17, 2008 by a federal grand jury on drug related charges announced Lawrence J. Laurenzi, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. The indictments were unsealed today after the defendants were arrested and taken into federal custody. Brenda Anderson, 51 of Humboldt, Tennessee, Dewitt Pack, 46 of Denmark, Tennessee, and Roy Gardner, 33 of Denmark, Tennessee, were charged in a one count indictment with aiding and abetting each other to possess with intent to distribute over 50 grams of cocaine base (crack cocaine) in violation of Title 21, USC, Section 841 and Title 18, USC, Section 2. Violations of these statutes carry a penalty of 10 years to life in federal prison. In a separate, but related, eight count indictment, Levertis Gardner, 19, Alvin Gardner, 22, and Kentavius Greer, 22, all of Denmark, Tennessee, were charged with violations of federal drug statutes. Each of these three defendants were charged in Count One of the indictment with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute and conspiracy to distribute over 50 grams of crack cocaine in violation of Title 21, USC Section 846 and Title 18 USC, Section 2. According to the indictment, Gardner, Gardner, and Greer obtained crack cocaine, developed a market for distribution in the vicinity of Madison County, Tennessee, and then sold crack cocaine to various individuals. The indictment further notes that the defendants used the proceeds of the illegal drug sales for their personal benefit. Counts Two through Eight charge the defendants individually for illegal possession of various amounts of crack cocaine in violation of Title 21, USC, Section 841 and Title 18, USC, Section 2. Count One carries a penalty of up to 20 years in federal prison and Counts Two through Eight each carry a penalty of 10 years to life in federal prison. These indictments resulted from an eight month investigation conducted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Metro Narcotics Unit, which consists of officers from the Jackson Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, United States Marshal’s Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Assistant United States Attorney Jerry Kitchen is handling the case for the government.
