On August 20, 2008, Lonny Conway, age 38, of Memphis, Tennessee, was charged in the Western District of Tennessee at Memphis, Tennessee, with one count of violation of the Federal Bank Robbery Statute and one count of violation of Use of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. Conway was charged in connection with the armed robbery of the SunTrust Bank, 464 South Perkins, Memphis, Tennessee.

The Suntrust Bank was robbed by an individual who was armed with a handgun. After taking an undetermined amount of federally insured funds, the robber fled westbound toward South Perkins. No one was injured during the robbery and investigation is continuing.

The robbery of the SunTrust Bank represents the 4th bank/credit union robbery in Shelby County in 2008. During the same period in 2007, 11 bank robberies occurred in Shelby County.

This robbery is being investigated by the Safe Streets Task Force. The Task Force is comprised of members of the Memphis Police Department, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
