The Suntrust Bank was robbed by an individual who was armed with a handgun. After taking an undetermined amount of federally insured funds, the robber fled westbound toward South Perkins. No one was injured during the robbery and investigation is continuing. The robbery of the SunTrust Bank represents the 4th bank/credit union robbery in Shelby County in 2008. During the same period in 2007, 11 bank robberies occurred in Shelby County. This robbery is being investigated by the Safe Streets Task Force. The Task Force is comprised of members of the Memphis Police Department, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
